Culinary Education Instructor - Contractor
At La Soupe, we believe in bringing people together through food. Instead of the traditional teacher-student model we see everyone as having something to share and something to learn. Therefore, it is vital that our experiences are rooted in the importance of getting curious about food. Our educators ask questions, experiment, and cultivate an environment of creativity so that we as a community can become confident in the kitchen.
La Soupe instructors have a passion for cooking with solid culinary skills, friendly and inclusive personality, and the ability to teach children or adults in our hands-on cooking classes.
Responsibilities
Teach hands-on cooking classes on an ad-hoc basis.
Connect with students to encourage them to build confidence in the kitchen.
Educate and communicate La Soupe’s mission.
About our classes
Classes are typically 2 hours plus 1-hour assisted pre-class set-up and clean up.
Class sizes range between 8-15 students per class, ages 12 through adult.
Classes are taught onsite at La Soupe or at various outreach partners in food insecure communities.
Qualifications
Professional cooking experience; a culinary degree is a plus.
Ability to teach basic cooking techniques in a hands-on class setting; previous teaching experience is a plus.
Food enthusiast with a passion for cooking and enjoys teaching to both kids (12+) and adults.
People-oriented, approachable and able to create a fun and comfortable class experience.
Excellent communication skills when speaking in group settings
Experience with organizing and interacting with groups of diverse individuals with varying skills, backgrounds and needs.
Dependable
Basic computer skills. Comfortable with Google and Microsoft products.
Can lift up to 50 lbs. Comfortably.
Scheduling
Up to 15 hours a week, based upon your availability.
Classes are Wednesday through Saturday. Occasional weekday evening classes may become available

About La Soupe
La Soupe is a non-profit food rescue organization that focuses on bridging the gap between food waste and hunger by rescuing food to create delicious, nutritious meals for food-insecure members of our community. Our education outreach programs provide needed free culinary education resources for the food insecure.
